Dog treats aren’t an absolute essential in your grooming kit like a clipper is, but they can be incredibly helpful during an appointment. If you want to ensure that the dog is content and stress-free during your appointment, it’s not a bad idea to have a few treats on you.

In fact, if you’re planning on having dog treats in your professional dog grooming kit, make sure you have a variety. This way, you can consider your canine clients’ health history and choose treats that won’t aggravate any health conditions or allergies they may have!

Regardless, choosing hypoallergenic treats that have only a couple ingredients is your fail-safe. Most dogs will be able to have them without any problems. Read on for a list of our favorite homemade dog treats for your grooming kit!

1. Peanut Butter Yogurt Treats

This two-ingredient treat is super easy to make!

Ingredients:

  • 32 ounces of vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup of peanut butter

Steps:

  1. Melt the peanut butter in a microwave.
  2. Combine the melted peanut butter with the yogurt.
  3. Pour the mixture into molds or cupcake liners.
  4. Freeze until hard, and store in the freezer until needed.

2. Frozen Apple Dog Treats

Similar to our first recipe, this fruity variation makes for a refreshing treat!

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples (remove the seeds and apple core to avoid poisoning the dog!)
  • 1 cup of plain yogurt
  • Splash of water

Steps:

  1. Blend all three ingredients in a blender until smooth.
  2. Pour mixture into an ice cube tray or mold and freeze.
  3. Store in freezer until needed.

3. Apple Pumpkin Pie Chew Sticks

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of applesauce (unsweetened)
  • 1 cup of pumpkin puree
  • ½ tbsp cinnamon

Steps:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Spread out long lines of the batter onto a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
  3. Place in oven at 175 degrees F to dehydrate for 6-7 hours.
  4. Once out of the oven, let cool slightly. They should be firm, non-sticky, warm, and flexible.
  5. Cut the strips to your desired length and twist into spirals before cooling completely.

4. Banana-Almond Puppy Treats

This treat is perfect for pups who need softer treats!

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup of unsalted almond butter
  • 1/3 banana
  • 1 tsp of ground cinnamon

Steps:

  1. Mash the banana.
  2. Mix with the other ingredients until you get a gooey consistency.
  3. Use a spoon to separate dime-sized dollops onto a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
  4. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes, flipping the pan halfway through.
  5. Let treats cool, and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

5. Diabetic Dog Treats

Whether your canine clients are diabetic or not, they’ll enjoy these beef-liver treats!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of whole wheat flour (or rice flour)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ pounds of beef liver cut into pieces

Steps:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a food processor until smooth.
  2. Spread evenly on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes.
  4. Cut into squares after cooling. It should have a sponge-like consistency.
  5. Store in the refrigerator in a sealed container.

6. Peanut Butter Holiday Treat

Although these are branded as holiday treats, you can certainly make them all year round!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of mashed sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour (or rice flour)
  • ½ cup of peanut butter

Steps:

  1. Combine the peanut butter with the sweet potatoes, and then slowly add the flour.
  2. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes of your choosing.
  3. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.
  5. Cool on cookie sheet, then transfer to a wire rack.

7. Gluten Free treats

Many dogs have gluten sensitivities. These treats are perfect for dogs that are allergic to grains.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of rice flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened peanut butter
  • 2 bananas

Steps:

  1. Mash up the banana with the peanut butter until smooth.
  2. Combine the flour slowly into the banana-peanut butter mixture.
  3. Chill this dough in the fridge for 20 minutes for a firmer texture.
  4. Roll out dough (to about ½ inch thickness) onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  5. Cut into shapes and poke holes into the treats.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes at 327 degrees F.
  7. Store in an airtight container until needed!
